Plymouth Winery Cookbook

The Plymouth Winery has published a cookbook that begins with classic appetizers and cocktails made with wine, and ends with decadent desserts. Subtitled Recipes for the Wine Lover, the dishes are easy to prepare with readily available ingredients, and all include grape or fruit varietals. The book provides lots of useful information on cooking with wine, such as how salt can dull the palate and toughen meat. Each recipe includes suggestions for the best type of wine to serve to complement the food. However, the author, Linda Shumway, encourages people to experiment by substituting a red wine for a white wine (or a wine made from fruit) in the same recipe to taste the different results. Ms. Shumway also encourages the host to try different wine pairings with the meal to enhance the dining experience.

The Plymouth Winery Cookbook is loaded with helpful hints, ranging from how to perk up soggy lettuce to techniques for napkin folding for that special dinner party. The soft cover and spiral binding keep the cookbook open on your counter for easy access to the instructions. As a bonus, the cookbook includes a previously published short story by winey owner Linda Shumway, entitled Grapes You Can’t Refuse, a humorous account of her first experience with trying to purchase Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The cookbook is available in the tasting room and online for $9.99.
